I'M GETTING MARRIED THIS YEAR!!!!

I'M GETTING MARRIED THIS YEAR!!!!

Congratulations on your Christmas engagement or maybe this is the year you're finally tying the knot and can proudly declare 'I'm getting married this year!'

Regardless of how you got here, now is the time to start finalising all those arrangements, firming up all those details and bringing all those crazy ideas together for your big day.

Up until now, it's probably been a casual mood board, a Pinterest collection of images or a folder on your phone of Instagram images stating 'things you like.'

This is the scary bit now as it's time to see how all your ideas are going to work together [or not!]  and how you can tie everything in successfully without looking too mish-mashy.

So, go through your images and ideas and BE RUTHLESS! It's the New Year so out with the old and in with the new.

Some of your original ideas may have seemed great at the time but maybe your preferences have changed or trends have changed and so it's time to move with the times!

First things first - have you had an engagement party? This is a great way to trial run and test drive some of your design ideas.  Go green and choose digital save the dates that can simply and cheaply be sent off your phone.

Decide on a theme e.g. spring flowers, minimalist or maybe something more unique e.g. blue gin invitations!

Make this theme central to your decorations and choose flowers that will work well with that theme. For example, crisp white or red roses work well with a classic minimalist feel, however, large peonies and big head daisies are better suited to a more rustic and playful theme.

Next, think about how you will style your venue and instruct guests.  Choose engagement welcome boards to add a sense of structure and order to your event. These make a great feature as guests enter your venue and can be simply displayed with pretty co-ordinating blooms and positioned on an easel.

Once you have had your engagement party it will then be clear in your mind what sort of wedding will work for you.  Consider your venue location and the time of year.  Summer blooms look amazing at a country barn in August but won't work so well at a cosy December wedding lit by candles.  As you have successfully reduced your ideas, you will definitely see a strong sense of style coming through your preferences so this will make choosing much easier.

Start searching online for other weddings that 'fit your brief.'  e.g. 'Rustic Church Wedding' or 'Bridgerton Theme Wedding'

This will also mean particular colour themes will come to the fore - choose neutral, coffee, mink. soft peach and pale green for rustic weddings or blue hues and wisteria purple for a glamourous Bridgerton themed affair.

Keep your ideas well-reigned in and follow a clear structure for your planning.  Set out a spreadsheet, mood-board or just a sheet of A4 with particular headings e.g. Flowers, Invitations, Venue Décor, Bridesmaid Dress Colours, Groom Suit, Bridal Gown etc.

And remember, enjoy it. The build up and the planning is just as exciting as the big day itself so cherish every moment!
